NP1-4th: Steve Price NP1-9th: Jack Davis NP2-11th: Gez Newsome Captain Combo: Gez Newsome (9) Handicap Changes: Here
The quirky, short and narrow layout demanded thoughtful course management on the best of days, but the rock-hard conditions made it an even sterner test. Firm fairways produced long, unpredictable bounces and rolls, while numerous blind shots added to the challenge throughout the round. Even well-struck shots could finish in trouble, resulting in balls being lost in open play and cries of "Fore!" echoing around the course. With many players battling the demanding conditions, rounds stretched beyond five hours for most of the field. Unsurprisingly, scoring was at a premium. Only eight players managed to break the 30-point barrier, and just a single golfer finished under par. The testing conditions caught out players of all abilities, with several low-handicappers also enduring unusually difficult rounds and posting disappointing scores. Third place went to Gez, who produced an excellent 35-point round, built on a solid foundation of pars, one superb birdie and just a single blob. A disappointing finish, with only four points from his final three holes, ultimately cost him a chance of victory. However, he still had plenty to celebrate, claiming the Nearest the Pin in Two on the 11th hole and claiming the Captain's Combo prize with nine points. Runner-up spot went to Jamie, whose excellent level-par round of 36 points was all the more impressive despite recording three blobs. He more than made amends with two superb birdies and a string of solid pars, finishing in style by paring each of the final three holes to secure second place. Taking the honours by a single point was Tommo, who enjoyed a welcome return to form. His winning round was built on consistency, with no blobs on the card, before producing a superb finish. An outstanding back nine, including an impressive 16 points over the final six holes, saw him pull clear to claim a well-deserved victory. |
