Our first visit to this unique course layout proved to be a refreshing change, featuring just nine greens served by fourteen different teeing areas. While the greens were in superb condition, the tight design and rock-hard fairways combined to create a demanding test throughout the day. Undulating fairways, steep run-offs around the greens and several cleverly positioned pin locations presented a quite different challenge from those we have become accustomed to over the years. Pleasant weather and a gentle breeze made for enjoyable playing conditions, while the abundance of trees and bushes ensured accuracy was rewarded and every shot required careful thought. The challenging layout was reflected in the scoring, with only three players managing to better par. Jamie produced a composed, blob-free level par round of 36 points. Although a few too many single-point holes prevented him from mounting a serious challenge for the top places, it was an excellent performance in the conditions. Third place went to Wiggy, who returned from his holidays in fine form to card a one-under-par 37 points. His consistent round featured just a single blob and five pars, keeping him firmly in contention throughout. At the top of the leaderboard, two players produced outstanding rounds of four-under-par 40 points. Antony Wale's impressive scorecard had just one blob, alongside two four-point holes and four three-point scores, before finishing strongly with 22 points on the back nine. However, it was Pete Barry who appeared victorious on countback. His winning round was one of resilience and explosive scoring. Despite recording three blobs, Pete more than compensated with four pars and three superb birdies. A sensational back nine of 23 points proved decisive, edging him ahead on countback to secure a deserved victory.
