Another
years goes by and another resounding success, beautiful weather (High
20's/30 and around 80% humidity) and wonderful golf courses. Even with
buggies everyday it was hard work having to leave them on the path and
walk. Day one saw Gez take the honors with a two over par round of 34
points. One shot back was Blakey who's recent good form continued. Bez
was the only other golfer to break 30, unfortunately many golfers
had really bad rounds. (Some the worst of their careers) Day two say Gez
continue his excellent form taking the honors again with a solid par
round. Blakey also improved on his first day score and was hot on the
heels of Gez leading into day three. Chris Shaw slotted into third place
with a good round of 3 over par. some golfers improved on there first
days scores but not by much. This very hilly and tight course needed
some accurate play and those in form certainly produced it. Day three
was again the Gez & Blakey show. Blakey went out before Gez and notched
the only under par score of the tour with 39 leaving Gez needing to
break par by one shot to take the tour championship. Safely on the green
for 3 he needed a very long putt to take it, or even a three putt to
hand it over to Blakey. With everyone watching he was as cool as he had
been the whole weekend, rolling it to within 2 feet for an easy par and
a share of the spoils.
Wyder Cup Story
Well the Wyder Cup story has got to be
Andy G. His captain must be as proud as punch after Andy ended up
unbeaten on 3 out of 3. He was carried a little on day one by Blakey but
did contribute, but days two and three where in his own hands. Taking
out Andy L on day two by 2&1 and beating Jeff W by the same result on day
three. The reds also had Gez and Steve W unbeaten after
all three days. So between these guys it was ¾ of the way two the 11
points they needed. With 5 out of the top 7 being reds and Sean W and
Whitt ending up 6th overall, it was a tour for the captain (Dale) to
take a back seat and watch from a far. It was not a good tour for either
captain with Paul H bringing up the rear, 4 shots a drift not managing
to get within 11 of par on any day. A disappointing tour for a few other
Blues who suffered from the hot weather, difficult courses (lost of lost
balls) and of course to many late nights mixed with alcohol intake.
Overall its now 7 to 4 to the red team and it requires the blues to be
on song when we hot Hawkstone next April.
