Vilamoura 2010

Another years goes by and another resounding success. Slightly different this year with only 14 golfers going, the draw being done in full before leaving, food at all the courses, mixed up with better golf courses was a great recipe, but add to that some superb weather and the picturesque Vilamoura marina, the tour was one for the memory banks to savor. Our lowest scoring tour to date (not a surprise with the quality of the courses)

Wyder Cup Story

Overall there where two unbeaten golfers Steve W and Woody, with Gez and Dale both only losing one all weekend, meaning four Reds in the top five was probably the deciding factor. Paul H the blue team captain was the only one to split them. The two Andy's did not have the best of time both without a win though Andy L had his best tour to date with some encouraging improvement. All square after the first two days and the Blues one up with the last four ball to come in. A chink of light for the blues but with the Red current captain and highest Wyder Cup average winner Gez coming in for the Reds, the writing was on the wall, taking all four singles for a 12 to 9 win.

The Result

It was a two horse race going into the last day with Bez holding a three shot lead from Steve W and the next Sean A being 10 points back. A clutch of 5 others where another one/two shot back an in with a slight chance if the top two had a mare. But it wasn't to be; you cant give Steve half a chance. Having won the first day's stableford and captains combo he started off like a train, 13 points after 5 holes left Bez in pieces. So after nine holes and 21 points it was almost over as a competition. But with four blobs in five holes around the turn for Bez it was curtains with Steve taking the overall top spot for the second time. Club captain Pete S had his best tour finish to date ending up equal third with unbeaten Wyder cup man Andy W and red team captain Dale G.
