Stoneleigh Deer Park May 12th

Jim looking relaxed and sharing some words of wisdom with Steve W before their round on Saturday

Blunders taking some cover on the first, or is there something more sinister going on under the umbrella

Jimbo cruised to a 4 shot win on a day where the weather was unpredictable to say the least. Jims round saw only one blob, and was peppered with nett birdies (8 in all) and 2 nett eagles. He showed the sort of consistent golf that has been threatening to come for some weeks now, but with a cut of 3 shots in his handicap down to 23 he will need to be in good form week in week out. Even before we got going on Saturday there was some controversy with Bez's new driver. Committee member Dale G looks on as Graham shows off the illegal driver. Bez seems to find it funny probably because he knows 300yards is well within his range. Dale was seen to have a practice with this square looking thing but a bit like his round today could not get on with it. Graham S had some bad luck with his round mainly due to Dale who threw off the buggy coming back up the hill from the par 3 15th. Second place Paul N went through his round without a blob and only 4 nett bogeys. This is the sort of consistency that Paul shows on a regular basis outside society days.  The model of consistency Paul H cam a close 3rd with another better than handicap score, if only he could use his woods we would all be in trouble.

There where a few people who will want to leave Stoneleigh well behind them, they where division 1 player Anthony H, who only notched 28 points. Although only four blobs in his round there where far to many nett bogies. is was disappointing for him after winning a guest event he attended last week. The other with a day to forget was committee member Dale G who came below Anthony with 26 points. A half decent back nine stopped this being a really embarrassing score.  Current division 1 OOM champion Gez recovered well from a bad start with only 9 points after 7 holes, but recovered to a respectable 32 points.

Willow whitt recovered well from the last event at Hellidon with a commendable 35 points not bad considering he only had 6 points after 5 holes. New member Chris Shaw continues to struggle, but shows small signs of improvement, with only seven rounds under hi belt I am sure there's plenty of improvement to come in the future. Another new member Andy G showed a 9 shot improvement on his last round which should build his confidence ready for the challenges of our next event at the Shropshire.

Guest Player Rob Ward was made welcome and wasted no time in giving us some entertainment. He struggled on the first few holes hitting the trees on numerous occasions threatening at one point to put Willow Whitt's reputation on the line with 5 trees on one hole. He gradually grew in confidence after nutmeging a duck on the 8th coming down the back 9 with 22 points.

Rob will certainly be welcome if he decides to join us on a regular basis.
