An
eventful day at Perton saw many good rounds of golf. But top society
golf Gez Newsome had a round where he had to work hard for every one
of his 30 points, none harder than the 11th where he ended up 40
feet behind the tee after hitting the ladies tee marker with his
drive. But in typical Gez fighting fashion he managed to recover to
muster a point. It was a day for some welcome good
scores that have been threatening to come. Dave B finally put
together a round better than his handicap. His score card is the
best we have seen in the society to date, there was no gross score
over a 5 on any hole for his round of 80 shots. Another welcome
round from Dave T saw his first score of the season better than par
while Whitt also strung together his 2nd round out of 3 better than
par these should give them both some confidence for the last 3
events. A few golfers are putting a run of consistency together,
Wiggy has played his last 4 rounds (39, 38, 36, 41) better than par
to be in second place in the Eagle League just behind today's winner
who has done the same with 39, 40, 37 and 44. One blob on the second
hole was the only negative on a day where he ended up with 26 points
on the back 9 made up of a couple of net eagles. Dale and Steve W
also continue to improve both keeping the pressure on Brain D. After
Gez's slip up Mark P and myself are tied at the top of the Albatross
League, but will both have our work cut out to hold on now we have
both been cut to 14. Birdie League leader Graham S continues his
good run of form with another better than par 37 to keep him three
points clear of Sean A who has closed the gap after his excellent
round of 44 points made up of no I points or no blobs. (2's and 3's
all the way) Greg W had a solid round of 34 not bad
considering he only returned from holiday the night before and a
welcome score after his previous round of 26. Bez has put together
back to back good scores to consolidate his position in middle
table. Blunders has give himself a glimmer of hope in the Birdie
league after a good round of 41 which leaves him in 3rd place. Chris
Shaw is threatening to make a move soon with another encouraging
round of 30. Some silly shots, a few to many putts which need to be
ironed out to give him a chance of some silverware by the end of the
season. Oh I don't suppose I can get away without mentioning my
howler on the 4th. After a previous birdie and par I lined up the
launch my tee shot down the fairway ready for an approach to the
nearest the pin in two hole, but I topped it with it ending up short
of the ladies tee. My next shot (not a good lie) I also topped and
after two I was still short of the ladies tee, but as Gez did with
his howler I managed to salvage a point. Please let me know if you
have any other stories that need reporting for the archive. |
