On
a beautiful day in the Cotswold countryside, it was Bez that shone
in the May sunshine.
The
big hitter had his accuracy head on today booming most of his drives
down the fairway leaving just a short wedge to most of the holes. He took the
honours by 3 shots with 42 points from our youngest member and fast
improving James Heathcote (39 points) Back in equal third one shot back
were the Whatsize brothers. These four where the only ones to break par
on the day from 32 starters. Bez's round consisted of 12 holes of par or better and
no blobs, his gross 80 and reward was a handicap cut down to 10.3 hot on
the heels of our lowest handicapper Paul Newsome. James recovered from a
double bogey after two holes to record four pars and two birdies on the
next 7 holes for a 9 holes score of 21. A par back nine with one blob
completed his round. Craig's round had a solitary blob and a balanced
score of 19 front and back for his gross 83. Brother Greg managed
exactly the same but kept a blob off the card. Looking further down the
order we should keep an eye on Graham A who for the second time this
year (out of three) notched 20 points plus after nine holes only to let
things slip badly coming in. Going in the other direction was Dale
(Dave) Green who started slow but finished with a back nine of 19 points
for his best score of the season so far. A few golfers had rounds to
forget including early pace setting and normally mister consistent
Anthony H. He never really got going, couple of blobs on the front nine
and
not a par in sight on the back made up his 23. Making this his
lowest ever score in the society by two shots. Andy Whitt (Willow Whit,
Woody, Scarface) notched his third score in the 30,s this season to keep
with striking distance of James H in the Division two OOM. The quartet
of guys with new Ping golf clubs had mixed fortunes with Steve W leading
the way with 35 Stableford points, closely followed by the captain with
34. Back on 30 came Dale G and bringing up the rear was Chris Shaw
with a poor 22. Most of this was caused by the woods which have not been
changed. Couldn't produce a report without adding this picture (left)
for when we reminisce in future years. |
