Another cracking day for golf was matched with a perfectly prepared course. It was again another tight affair with only two golfers breaking par and the next 12 golfers being covered by 5 points. So again that missed two footer, the wayward chip and misjudged approach could have cost many Grand Prix points. Taking top spot with a 2 under par round of 38 was our youngest member James Heathcote who for the second event running has took a cut in his handicap now down to 12, 5th lowest in the society. 7 pars and only one blob was the difference between James and second place Cam. Who second event of the year saw him break par and reduce his handicap in the process. His solid round only had one blemish on the Par 4 16th. Back in third place was the vastly improving Mark Cassels. His best round/score ever since joining us could have been so much better and quite easily took spot without back to back bogies on 16 & 17. Two other golfers could have made top spot if they had not started off poorly. Both clocked a very good back nine but the first three holes was the key.

This even saw the quarter finals of the MatchPlay format "Committee Shield" All four games went down to at least the 16th with James H beating Tommo 3&2. The next two matches finished 2 UP with Gez beating Bez and Craig edging out Blakey. The forth quarter final went all the way and more. Anthony Harding playing off 11 was giving a mere 14 shots to his opponent Patrick Mahoney. It started off even Stevens with is being all square after four holes. Then Anthony went 4 up after 10 holes. and looked to be coasting. But Pat had other thoughts taking 4 out of the next 5 holes leaving it all square with 3 to play. It was nip and tuck on the last 3 with them all being shared. Countback then came into play which took into account their Stableford scores which was also was the same, both scoring 31 points. But it was the back nine score that helped Pat take match after notching 17 points to Anthony's 12. So its over to Craig to try and put a stop to Pat's excellent run in the semi finals.
