Harding takes his first victory of the 2013 season with a 3 under par
round of 39 points. His gross 82 was his best for some 15 months. His
reward was a handicap cut down to 11 exactly and a share of the Division
One OOM with Gez. Both on the same points as we go into the last event
of the season. Back in second place was the seasons mister consistent.
This was his 6th time out of 8 events he has finished in the top 4. He
is a country mile ahead in the Grand Prix and just turning up at the
Abbey I suspect will be enough. His 2 under par round of 37 was good but
with 3 blobs in the last 7 holes it probably should have took top spot.
Back in third was Rick B with a welcome return to form. His 36 equaled
his best score of the season and with back to back scores within his
buffer zone coupled with another solid display at the Abbey could see a satisfying
end to the season.
Back in forth spot was the captain who continued his decent run of form.
Luckily for the others he left his "Hot Putter" in Spain. Only one blob
but four 3 putts and a couple of short misses on the front 9 left him
some 5 shots short. Andy Gordon followed his previous visit to this
course back in 2009 with a solid display of 34. Four blobs stopped Andy
taking top spot but was rewarded by taking the captains combo with nine
points.
Today hosted the final of the MatchPlay "Committee
Shield" which saw high flying Gez take on Division three grafter Patrick
M. Pat has already taken two division one scalps in the quarters and
semis, so another one in the final was not going to phase him. A
poor start from Gez with only 3 points after 4 holes saw Pat take the
first 4 holes. Gez came surging back over the next 5 holes, so going down the
back nine it was nip and tuck with Pat just taking holding the
advantage. Couple of scary moments and some good focused play from Gez
(as you would expect) took it to the 16th, but Pat held off the pressure
from Gez for an excellent victory and the first division three player to
win it. |
