Our
return visit to Farthingstone some 7 years after our first was rather
memorable. Last time out
only
one golfer broke par this time round not as good with only Rob Ward
equaling par. Could have been much better, only notching 1 point on the
last two holes, with the 18th being his only blob of the day. It also
must be mentioned that Andy Whitt managed to take £84 from his win the
only person with the confidence to back him with "Howard the Hooky
Bookie" 1 point back was the captain who continues to improve as he gets
used to his new clubs. The first two par 3's gave him some pain not
being able to hit an iron remotely close to any of the greens. A ball in
the water at 17 was the difference in him taking top spot and his second
every society win. A further shot back was Ricky who's round consisted
of no blobs but far too many single point scores. Like many other the
16th proved difficult, playing long without a shot as the wind picked
up. The lowest gross score on the day of 85 and back to back scores
within his buffer zone is encouraging and certainly one to think about
with "Howard the Hooky Bookie" next time out. Its worth mentioning 4th spot that went
to
the fast improving Chris
Shaw. Taking a healthy lead in the Division 2 OOM
and winning his league
knockout we should all be wary of what is to come. By his own admission
he did not play that well, but 33 points on a bad day is something we
all would like. Checkout the results

Now your thinking what are all the records
I have been talking about. It was the overall lowest scoring day for the
society with 80% of the golfers playing below their buffer zone. Abbo
with the lowest Stableford score for nine holes with ONE. 7 golfers not
even getting to 20 points, and a further 7 only getting between 20 & 23.
Then Dale manages to get 12 (no not over 9 holes but over 18) 8 on the
front nine holes and 4 on the back. To add insult to injury 3 of the 4
points on his back nine came on one hole, where he pared the par 3 11th.
Will the smart money be on him next time out as he looks to put today
well behind him.
Note: CSS of
69 was considered due to more than 75% of the field scoring less than
par, but not applied as it did not affect anyone's handicap |
