 On
a day lovely sunny day our latest event ended up
being a very close affair. It was a day where a
sloppy putt, chip or approach here and there was the
difference in some 8 to places. Again no golfer
broke par leaving the winning score one shot back at
35. UK ever present and committee member Dale G took
top spot with a solid round which only saw one blob
on the par 4 second. Dales putter was on fire taking
full advantage of a couple of good recovery shots
from difficult positions.
After that followed a
tale of woe from many golfers. Securing second on
count back was Craig W who was also in the opening 3
ball with Dale. His round also consisted of only one
blob, but made up of an unprecedented 5 shots on 15
of the 18 holes for the lowest gross of the day by 3
shots at 86. Back in third place came Rick B who's
34 points seen two blobs but contained the most
number of par's or better on the day of 8 (in a tie
with Tommo and the Captain) Next came three golfers
on 33 points
who had mixed fortune. Tommo's recorded
the best back nine of the day with 22 points to
recover from a poor 11 at the turn, while Brian D slipped back slightly from a solid 18 at the turn
and "Red hot Howard" having a blip of 1 point in
four holes from the 4th to the 8th. After these came
a myriad of 7 golfers all on 32 points, of which one
was Steve W who's round contained two blobs and "A
trousers Down" moment for slotting the ball on the
ladies tee on the 200 yard par 3 17th (Picture left)
One of the golfers off the pace was Nico who's up
and down round of 25 consisted of 6 blobs with a
slight recovery of two of the par 5's with par. On
the 13th he managed to Wow his second 20 yards
through the green (picture above) with a long
chip/putt for eagle. Unfortunately he only managed
par.
Another day to forget for a few
golfers, with Division One's big hitter Bez
recording his worst score for a year with 24.
Committee man and mister ever present Andy
W/Woody/Willow Whit could also only notch a mid
twenties score. But managed some pride with
collecting "Nearest the Pin in two" on the 7th. By
all accounts his half hit shot collided into the
bunker bounced up lipped the top rolled down the
side and on to the putting surface. I am sure he
will say its the end result that counts not how you
get there. An event seems not to go by this season
without mentioning John Howard, he is in a rich vain
of formed and managed to claim the "Nearest the Pin"
prize running it some 10 feet left of the pin.
