Windmill Village

Our latest event at Windmill Village on the A45 saw a feel good factor day for most golfers. A bright sunny day, with excellent greens gave a good grounding for 10 better than par rounds. Only four golfers failed to break the 30 point barrier with there being 21 birdies and 136 pars our best totals to date. Big scores where expected so 40 points (SSS 65) became the new par which helped a handful of golfers from getting a further cut. The winner Paul Newsome notched a cool 44 points made up of 12 pars and a birdie for an impressive gross score of 74 (5 over par) Brother Gez weighed in with the next best gross core with 79. His 40 points could have been better if he had not had a slow start and improved on his two double bogies on two of the back nine par 3's. Dale delivered what he promised with an impressive 42 points for second spot. His scorecard was only spoilt with a blob on his bogey hole the 17th.  Blunders hit some form securing third spot with 41 points. Three blobs did not help matters but with six scores of 3 points, two of four and one five point hall all helped his best score for sometime. Poults returned to his old stomping ground finishing with his best score for some two years. 40 points could have been better if he had not blobbed the stroke index three 12th on the back nine. The other golfer to return to his old home course Greg W notched the nearest the pin on the third hole. Anthony again found some form with 40 points for which also could have been better only scoring 4 points on the last three holes.

This event hosted all the divisional Spring knockout finals. Division one saw Anthony take on Tommo with Anthony taking it by an impressive 7 shots 40 points to 33 his second victory in this event over the years. Division two saw fellow committee Steve up against Dale. Dale took this one by a clear 4 shots with his 42 points second place on the day.  Division three affairs went to the wire with only one point separating Sean A and Andy L (Pictured left) Sean finished strong with 7 points on the last two holes but it was not quite enough with Andy securing victory with an impressive 18th hole display. Andy's first trophy and 38 points should give him some added confidence as we hit the half way point of the season.

New associate member Sean Wynne put in a solid round ending up with 42 points. Only one blob and four pars was the foundation to his best score to date. He is now down to 27 with I expect more cuts to come. The other associate guests did not fair as well with Kevin Wynne hitting 30 points and Jeff W doing one better with 31. Jeff had a poor middle front nine only scoring two points on five holes, but recovered on the back nine only having one blob. Andy Whit (Woody) picked things up well on the back nine after only notching five points after 8 holes (Almost the worst by any member) but with a string of 2's and 3's from holes 10 through to 17 almost made his 27 respectable.  Rich D, Rick B and Rob will be forgetting the day rather quickly with none of them getting to 30 points on a day where there were plenty of points up for grabs. The feel good factor day did not extend to everyone. Where there's always the next event.
