Our 2010 opening event turned out to be another resounding success. The Red and Blue team where again playing for the latest spoils of the Wyder Cup while individuals where looking to get their season off to a flying start. This event normally throws up some season long poor scores and this year was no exception. The weather had nothing to be blamed for with sunny and still conditions for everyone. Both days saw no one break par and both days stableford be decided on count back with 35 points. Saturday saw Paul Newsome and Jim Cunningham ending up at the top. Paul's back nine of 14 was his downfall. made up of two blobs it was the main reason Jim took top spot. His solid round split 18 and 17 was a good start to the season after a full winter off.

The weekend was rather special for James and a first for the society, of which we will probably never see again. 6 stableford points on one hole YES SIX. How did he manage this feat... The par 4 11th stroke index 2, 382 yards long  was causing most golfers a bit of a problem but not James on Saturday. After a clean drive down the fairway, he left himself around 180 yards to the green. Playing off 29 this meant he had 2 shots. So when his approach dropped into the hole he was effectively down for nothing. Unfortunately the other 17 holes where not quite as good finishing on 28 points for ninth place.

Day two Sunday also saw two players tied on 35. Gez this time joined Jim C for the spoils, and it was Gez that took it this time. Both players blobbed the last  so it could have gone either way. The weekends Wyder Cup ended up being an easy win for the Blues by 12½ - . Saturday seen the reds take a 3 point lead 2½ - even though it was 9 blues that occupied the top 13 places. Leading into Sunday no one really expected a near white wash with the blues only losing one match (The Captain of course) so taking the day with a 10 - 3 victory.  Check out your Wyder Cup standings here
