 Our
latest event saw a mixture of reasonable scores and far to many bad
ones. The course played long probably due to the vast amount of rain
we have had in the past week or so. Craig W the societies lowest
handicapper found no problem with the course notching an impressive
39 points for his gross 82. Nine pars a birdie proved to be the
foundation with only one blob on the 17th spoiling the card. Paul
Newsome secured third spot with an exact par round of 36, not a blob
in sight and no score over six was the reward for his accurate
round. The vastly improving Woody secured second spot for the second
event running with another par round of 36. No blobs on the card was
the foundation for this solid round. A couple of sloppy putts and a
bit of bad luck was the difference from top spot.
Bez was one shot further back and
secures his top spot in division one. Four golfers then posted their
best scores of the year. Gez N notched a respectable 35 points, with
two blobs on the card, both on par three's. His sloppy start of 3
points after 3 holes was the shortfall to a winning score. Darren
G's 35 was a solid display from start to finish. A blob on the third
and a couple of ones on 5 & 6 stopped this from being much better.
John H and Rick B both posted 34. John started off with a blob then
two pars in four holes helped him towards his front nine total of
17, which he matched on the back nine. Ricks par on the first was
not helped with back to back blobs on the 2nd and 3rd, another blob
on the fifth was cancelled out with a par and birdie on the next
two. His back nine saw no blobs but far two many one point scores to
trouble the leaders.
Twelve
of the thirty field had day they would like to forget all posting
les than 30, to all get an extra increase of 0.3 for the "30 point
rule". How fortunes change, it was only May when Chris Shaw was
winning by a mile with 45 points, but today could not hit a barn
door. His
start did not help with 6 straight blobs (See card). 6 points after
eleven holes was never going to help. A mini comeback with nine
points on 3 holes from 12 to 14 was only short lived as the last
four holes only yielded a single point. Captain Pete posted his
worst score ever on home soil with a weary 23. The round did not
feel as bad as it looked, but a broken 7 iron on the first, followed
by 3 off the tee on 4 out the next 6, playing the wrong ball and
flying in the out of bounds all went towards 13 points after 14
holes.10 points on the last four holes did not even make this a
respectable score. Fellow committee member and normal mister
consistent Dale G also had a bad day notching a below par 28 his
lowest score since April 08. Three blobs and six single points score
did not help. Only two pars and a sloppy finish turned this into a
below consistent round of golf.
