Hill Valley Weekender April 4th & 5th |
||
| Our opening event of year at Hill Valley was another resounding success. The accommodation and food again was excellent, but this year we had the weather to match which gave us all the ingredients for a great opening weekend of the 2009 Season. The whole weekend only saw two golfers play better than their handicaps. Saturday's stableford honors went to Dave Thompson who weighed in with a 41 point haul. Obviously the winter break proved a good tonic good for Tommo. Five shots back where societies mister consistent Dale G and Paul N who both played exactly to their handicaps with 36 points. Dale's 18/18 in and out was a nicely balanced round with only one blob spoiling the card on the par 5 fifth. Paul on the other hand made his solid of 36 despite blobbing the first and 18th holes. Just behind in the pack where a couple of Division 3 player who both weighed in with good scores. Andy Langtree scored an impressive 34 made up of seven nett pars and one nett birdie. Chris Shaw must have been kicking himself after blobbing the last three holes to end up on 32 after paring the par 3 15th. 19 of the 32 strong field will like to forget the opening event after non of them broke the 30 point barrier. Good to get this one out the way I would think. | ||

| Sunday saw a slightly tighter affair, with only two points separating the top three. Bez took top spot with a solid 38 points, made from 9 pars which helped him to also take the captains combo with a clear 9 points. Equal second was Greg W and again Chris Shaw. Greg's round of par 36 was made from 6 pars and a birdie, with only one blob on the card on the 9th. Chris Shaw is threatening a big score any day soon, with another solid round of par 36. His round saw only one blob but just like the previous day only one point from the last two holes was the difference between winning and losing. The weekend trend continued for not breaking 30 points with almost half the field not getting there on Sunday. | ||

Our latest offering saw the closet finish to date in the competition. Saturday saw the Red team take the doubles by our widest margin to date, ending up 6 - 2 after taking the first 6 pairings. o going into the Sunday singles it looked good for the Reds to retain the Wyder Cup. The Blues got straight into the groove when they took the first 3 singles before a couple of red wins, followed then by another 4 blues. This left it all square at 10 each with 2 singles to go. The penultimate pairing saw Greg beat his brother Craig to leave the Blues one up with one to play. Debutant Andy Langtree managed to win the last hole to half the match against Andy Whittaker (Woody) which gave the Blues the victory by just a single point 11½ to 10½. For the Wyder Cup standings click here. The weekend saw 4 golfers from each side unbeaten in the Wyder Cup. Blues had Brian Dudley, Chris Shaw, Rick Batchelor & Dave Wiggett, while the Reds had Dale Green, Darren Gough, Paul Newsome & Andy Whittaker unbeaten. The weekend also saw 9 golfers without a single point, with 3 Reds and 6 Blue leaving the festivities empty handed. The weekend also saw our 2008 season presentation evening.
